The house has a large car park and the local town centre of New Romney is within easy access. The nearby towns of Ashford, Folkestone and Hythe are accessible. Due to our position on the seafront all rooms have a sea view or garden view. The building is two storeys with a passenger lift between floors. We value our open layout with wide corridors and a light and airy feel to the home. The home has 19 single rooms of which 5 are en suite and 3 double rooms.  

I was reluctant to put my sister into respite care for one week but needed the rest myself, however, I am so pleased I did. When I went to visit, I expected tears and she wanted to come back but she was really happy and looked the best she had at any time. The staff gave her things to do (clearing tables and folding towels etc). She said the food was wonderful and she chatted to other residents. The staff could not do enough, did not want to leave. This is a good place to be.

There is a large lounge with dining area and a sun room overlooking the garden, which is laid with lawn and flower beds, the garden is secure. The home has a hairdressing room.

The home manager Zoe Kendall has an LMA Award NVQ 4 in care as well as the Registered Managers award, she is supported by a senior carer and a team of longstanding dedicated staff. All staff are trained to NVQ level 2 or 3 and have experience with dementia care.

The home is equipped with a fire alarm system and every room has a 24 hour call system.

Rooms are decorated to a high standard and personalised as is practical, the home is under constant refurbishment and redecoration. The home has two bathrooms, one with a walk in bath, and the other with a seat lift for access. There is a shower room on the ground floor. The lounge and the sun room both contain televisions. All rooms have wheelchair access.

Activities are varied, from arts and crafts, board games and physical games, reminiscence or communication activities, all are offered as individual or group activities. The home benefits from monthly music entertainment, a fortnightly hairdresser visit, six weekly podiatrist visit. Newspapers are delivered daily. Two key events are the summer garden party and Christmas party where family and friends come together - it's a social highlight in our diary.

Visitors are welcome throughout the day and are invited to meetings to input their views on matters within the home. The home has a walkabout telephone for residents to receive calls, some residents have their own personal phone in their bedrooms. We strive to involve our residents with the local community through outings. 

Each resident has their own person centred care plan which we try to involve family, friends and professionals in the plan. The care plan is reviewed monthly. All residents are registered with a local GP. Medication is administered by qualified staff and the community health services are available if required. Residents are given a choice of meals and specialist diets are catered for.

Sandbanks have a complaints procedure which all families and relative are aware of. We provide visitor questionnaires and welcome feedback on our website. At Sandbanks we try to involve families and relatives in any changes and development within the home. The manager is always available and oversees the running of the home.
