Residential care

What is residential care?

Residential care is a type of care that provides a safe, supportive living environment for individuals who need assistance with daily activities but want to maintain a level of independence and dignity. It is typically designed for adults who can no longer safely live independently in their own homes but may not require intensive medical supervision.

Residential care essentially bridges the gap between independent living and hospital-level care, providing a structured yet comfortable environment where residents receive personalised support with their daily needs, including personal hygiene, dressing, bathing, toileting, and mobility support.

How we deliver residential care at Belmont Healthcare

At Belmont Healthcare, our professional, caring staff provide full support, 24 hours a day, to meet the needs of every individual in our care. Residents are encouraged to maintain their independence as much as possible, with staff dedicated to always ensuring their security and dignity. Our teams understand the importance of respecting our residents’ choices in how they would like to be supported when it comes to residential care. To achieve this, individuals have individual tailored care plans which cover their dietary requirements, hobbies, and interests.

Our care homes are designed to provide a warm, loving, welcoming, and homely environment, with opportunities for individuals to take up hobbies, enjoy regular activities, and live their lives with meaning and friendship. We focus on building communities within our homes, providing opportunities for socialisation, group activities, and connecting with the wider community. And we promote independence as much as possible, whilst always being on hand to help. This might include bathing, dressing, medication supervision, cleaning and mobility, which can no longer be managed at home.

Why choose Belmont Healthcare for residential care?

All residents who come to live with us are encouraged to become involved in the daily life of the home, in whichever way they choose. We have weekly activity programmes which are planned with our residents’ wishes in mind, such as having hobby groups and entertainment of their choosing. We offer a variety of activities from simple traditional pastimes such as crossword puzzle groups, board games, baking, or visits from school groups to the more unusual visits from Pet Lab, Morris Dancers and armchair fun with partners such as Kiddley Divey (a specialist in providing fun-filled, lively and imaginative classes).

Across all of our homes, we have created partnerships with clubs, groups, and local businesses to encourage our residents to get out and about, be involved in local activities or events, and take part in the activities and hobbies they may have done before such as going to the pub for a pint, taking a stroll in the local park or popping into the local store. We also encourage people from our local communities to come into our homes, so those who may not be able to access the wider community still feel connected.

We promote our residents to remain active as much as possible by having lots of fun during activities with plenty of lively conversations, cups of tea and slices of freshly baked goods from our kitchens. We encourage our residents to lead our resident groups and meetings; this is, after all, their home. Some of our residents like to join in when interviewing new team members or helping our maintenance, housekeeping or admin teams. This gives those participating in the activities a purpose while contributing to life in our homes.

You should consider residential care when daily tasks become challenging, safety concerns increase, or social isolation becomes apparent. Signs include difficulty managing medications, frequent falls, or forgetting basic self-care. We offer comprehensive assessments to evaluate needs and guide your decision. We welcome visits to our homes, and you can arrange a trial stay to help determine if our environment feels right for your loved one.

The process begins with an initial consultation and comprehensive care assessment. Once we confirm we can meet all requirements, we discuss availability and create a personalised care plan. We encourage visits to familiarise residents with our environment. On moving day, our team provides full support, followed by regular check-ins during the settling-in period.

Yes, residents are encouraged to bring their furniture, photographs, artwork, and cherished possessions to create a familiar environment. We can accommodate personal items while following safety guidelines for electrical appliances. Our team work with families to plan comfortable room layouts.

Our activities program is extensive and designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being while respecting individual interests and abilities. Whilst all home activities programmes will differ, across most we offer daily activities including arts and crafts, music therapy, gentle exercise classes, gardening clubs, book discussions, and much more. Regular entertainment includes live music performances, visiting speakers, and themed events celebrating holidays and special occasions. We also organise outings to local attractions, shopping centres, and community events when possible. Family members are always welcome to participate in our programs.

We maintain comprehensive healthcare support with qualified nursing staff available 24/7. Each resident has a detailed care plan that includes all medical conditions, medications, and specific health requirements. We coordinate closely with local GPs, specialists, and healthcare services to ensure continuity of care. We also have established relationships with local hospitals and can accompany residents to appointments when required. Regular health monitoring and medication management are integral parts of our daily care routine.

Our chefs can accommodate most dietary restrictions, including diabetic, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and culturally specific meal requirements. We also cater to texture-modified diets for residents with swallowing difficulties. Family members are welcome to join residents for meals, and we encourage feedback about food preferences. Our dining rooms provide a social atmosphere, though residents can also choose to dine in their rooms if preferred.

Our fees are structured to be transparent and comprehensive, covering accommodation, all meals, personal care, activities program, utilities, and basic healthcare support. Costs vary depending on the level of care required and the room type selected. We provide detailed fee structures during initial consultations and can discuss funding options, including local authority funding, NHS Continuing Healthcare, and private payment plans. Additional costs may apply for specific services such as hairdressing, chiropody, or specialist therapies, but these are always discussed and agreed upon in advance.
