Home Support Assistant Marie Gardiner from Belmont at Home will be shaving off all her hair on Saturday the 13th of November to raise money for teenager Cameron diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Friedreich's Ataxia.
Backed by the company with a healthy donation of £300, Marie is raising funds to assist in the purchase of a desperately needed wheelchair to suit Cameron’s specific needs to help him live his life as independently as possible.
Jennie Coy, Belmont at Home Manager says: “We are very proud of Marie for making such a commitment to helping Cameron. This brave young man deserves to be able to live his very best life and we are only too happy to support Marie contribute to the fundraising activity of Cameron’s family.”
Marie says: “Every day is a battle for Cameron but he never gives up. His amazing spirit has really inspired me to not only recognise his journey but also do something to help. Shaving off my hair is such a small contribution but I am more than happy to do if it will raise the funds required to purchase the wheelchair he needs to live an independent life.”
Friedreich's Ataxia is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects 1 in 50,000 people, there is no cure. Symptoms include unsteady posture, scoliosis of the spine, frequent falling, difficulty walking, slurred speech, diabetes and a heart defect.
If you've ever had the chance to meet Cameron, you know he is a kind and loving young man who is truly loved by everyone. He is always the life and soul of the party with a great sense of humour and a personality to match. Any donations will be gratefully received, donate by going to the Go Fund me page
