Fun and games for brain training

We all know how important staying physically active is but we feel it’s just as important to keep our brains active and healthy as our age advances.

Taking a departure from the usual solitary crossword, that many of our residents like to complete, we held a group activity where the brain training activity of problem solving was the aim of the game.

The opportunity to socialise and join in a collaborative process involved giant dominoes, colouring in, and bingo, all perfect tactile games to maintain active minds through recall, solving puzzles, drawing and talking.

Sallyann Briggs, care manager at Haslington Lodge care home said: “Mental stimulation is really important to us. We pay just as much attention to exercising our minds as we do to keeping our bodies exercised. It’s important for all of us as we get older that we stimulate our mind, it’s what keeps us physically able, sharp and alert, and ultimately in control of the lives we live. I’m very pleased to say not much gets past our residents so it must be working.”
