Jam tarts would suit any queen of hearts

The mood enhancing activity of baking brought everyone together to make a batch of Queen of Hearts jam tarts.

The satisfying and relaxing activity of baking is more than just a task here at Haslington Lodge, it’s about coming together for a natter and joining in to achieve something together.

Individual tasks were assigned to cut the pastry, prepare the pastry cases, add the jam, and the piece de resistance of adding a pastry topped heart, were all enthusiastically met in readiness for the final product.

Sallyann Briggs, registered care manager at Haslington Lodge care home said “Combining baking with a catch-up and a natter is a great way for our residents to come together and take part in an activity with a purpose. Just like any household, cooking together further develops our bonds and there’s nothing better than seeing faces of delight when the house fills with the delicious smell, just waiting to be eaten. No one will be getting to these before our residents that’s for sure.”
