Loveable pets visit new romney care home

Offering more than a smile to residents at Sandbanks residential care home, Sandbanks Lodge, was a loveable guinea pig from animal handling therapy experts Zoo Lab.

The calming effects of the company’s very social guinea pig were far felt as the fluffy little animal made its rounds swaddled in a comforting blanket for residents to hold, comfort, and pet.

Lyselle Tart, manager at Belmont Healthcare says: “We have all felt the positive effects of stroking a dog, or cat, and smaller animals such as a rabbit, but equally the calming effects of a guinea pig were clear to see.

“Animal therapy is something we promote and is a regular activity in our home. Residents look forward to it and engage with it. For some it brings back memories of when they were younger, for others it’s more social and a great way to share the positive experience with other residents.

“The presence of animals at Sandbanks certainly brings joy to the home and anything that makes our residents happy has got to be a good thing.”
