Pen pal friends make for a special relationship

Year 11 Health & Social Care students at The Marsh Academy have struck up a pen pal relationship with residents at Madeira and Sandbanks Lodge Care Homes.

The 15 to 16 year old students approached the care home with a request to see if residents would like to receive letters from the students, of course the overwhelming response was yes!

The pupils got to work straight away with Christmas best wishes and updates, with additional messages of hope and positivity for the New Year.

Sarah Pennington, Care Home Manager at Madeira Lodge Care Home says: Its very touching to see how much our residents love to receive these letters, it’s also really nice for our residents to focus on writing letters or cards in return. A handwritten letter or message in the post is such a nice and very rare thing to receive these days, it’s very special indeed and we are very grateful to The Marsh Academy for thinking of us.”

The much anticipated unveiling and grand opening of the 1.5 million pound development transformation of Madeira Lodge will be this coming spring. The re-designed care home will offer the latest facilities and technology to support residents with dementia, and related illnesses, in a holistic and enabling space providing the best in dedicated dementia and elderly care in the area.
