Sandcastle making takes an edible twist

Bringing the beach indoors residents at Haslington Lodge care home made edible sandcastles in a recent fun craft activity.

Using ingredients from the kitchen cupboard, including a packet of the home’s favourite cereal, Cheerios, the craft session embraced a seaside theme with the pièce de résistance of Pink Wafers biscuits marking the completion and the flag on top.

Grinding parts of the cereal together to create a sand-like texture, and adding water to the other parts to make a dough-like wet sand texture, the sandcastles were made in real-life form and certainly looked the part.

Sally Ann Briggs, Registered Manager at Haslington Lodge care home says: “This fun activity was a lot of fun and gave our residents the chance to push their creativity to the limits whilst getting involved in a sensory experience that perfectly illustrates what summer time means to them.”
